Bausch + Lomb supports opening of new ‘wet lab’ in Hull to enable first-class surgical training

Bausch + Lomb are proud to have supported the creation of a new wet lab facility at the Eye Hospital at Hull Royal Infirmary. This wet lab facility based at the Hull Institute of Learning and Simulation (HILS) provides four Stellaris machines for training purposes allowing quality hands-on training to ophthalmologists in Yorkshire and beyond.

As well as learning techniques for cataract surgery in the lab, surgical trainees will also practice skills used to deal with known complications such as advanced anterior vitrectomy. Simulated eyes of various designs and specially-designed operating tables will allow trainers to simulate the exact conditions faced in operating theatres.

Mr James Innes, Ophthalmology Consultant at Hull University Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We are proud to have a first-class training facility here in Hull. We hope it will help us attract and retain young ophthalmologists and provide the perfect setting for them to hone their surgical skills before supervised practice begins”

Bausch + Lomb are thrilled to be able to support this top-class facility to provide practical, skills-based education that will enable the team here to continue to deliver excellent care to patients across the region.
