Bausch + Lomb Launches Biotrue ONEday for Astigmatism

2nd October 2017, London - Bausch + Lomb, a leading global eye health company, has announced the launch of its latest daily disposable lenses for astigmatism, an innovative toric lens delivering consistently clear vision throughout the day^1^.

Similar to Biotrue ONEday and Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia, Biotrue ONEday for Astigmatism utilises Surface Active Technology. This technology uses hydrophilic polyvinylpyrrilidone (PVP), a water loving molecule, and Poloxamer 407, a surface active macromer, to form a dehydration barrier that helps the lens maintain 98% of its moisture for up to 16 hours^2^.

Biotrue ONEday for Astigmatism contact lens has been engineered to provide patients with consistently clear vision and comfort throughout the day. The lens features an evolved prism free peri-ballast designed to support stability and fit and work with natural blink patterns. The advanced design also includes a thin tapered edge to limit lid interaction, orientation marks to help patients during insertion and spherical aberration control for low-light conditions.

In a study of 123 current non-daily disposable toric soft contact lens wearers, 98% of ECPs surveyed were satisfied with the speed of fitting and patients agreed that Biotrue ONEday for Astigmatism lenses provided comfortable vision even in challenging conditions, such as when working for long hours at a computer, when driving at night and when in dry environments^1^.

Amy Rothwell, Bausch + Lomb Business Unit Head UK and Ireland, Vision Care, said: “At Bausch + Lomb we are dedicated to helping patients achieve the best quality of vision.  We have been at the forefront of visionary innovations and this launch demonstrates our continued commitment to perfecting sight.  By harnessing new technologies we have been able to widen our portfolio and offer today’s astigmatic patients with consistently clear vision and comfort through the day.”

The quality of the lenses are excellent. Almost 100% of my patients find the lenses comfortable from the initial fit right through a full day’s wear. There is definitely a need for a one-day toric lens providing stable eyesight with no compromise on corneal health or comfort.

The launch of Biotrue ONEday for Astigmatism completes the Bausch + Lomb range of daily lenses, helping to meet all the needs of patients.

1. Results from a 7-investigator, multi-site study of Biotrue ONEday for Astigmatism on 123 current non-daily disposable toric soft contact lens wearers. Lenses were worn on a daily wear basis for 1 week. Performance was rated using a 6-point agree/disagree scale and statistical analysis was performed to assess whether significantly more patients agreed than disagreed. #828:15-003. May 2016.
