B+L attends the 41st Annual Meeting of UKISCRS: one of the oldest implant societies in the world!

The United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS) has an active membership of 400 surgeons, 200 of which were present for the annual meeting in Hinckley in early September.  The annual meeting is a forum for education and learning in the field of cataract and refractive surgery and features a didactic programme for Young Ophthalmologists on the first two days of the meeting.

This year’s plenary symposium was delivered by current UKISCRS President, Mr Larry Benjamin (Stoke Mandeville), who discussed the prevention and management of vitreous loss during cataract surgery.  This potentially sight-threatening condition is one of the more common complications and Mr Benjamin offered delegates tips that aimed to prevent it arising and offered advice on delivering a successful patient outcome if it should occur.  This year’s Pearce Medal Lecture was delivered by Mr Boris Malyugin (Moscow), on the subject of surgery in patients with small pupils and the Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Mr David Boase (Portsmouth) who recounted his experience of 50 years in ophthalmology.

Bausch + Lomb are proud to continue to support this key educational event, as an exhibitor and as sponsor of the Best Video Paper and Best Overall Paper prizes, and truly enjoyed engaging with surgeons from the UK and around the world.
